Summertime Dropouts Win Alternative Press AP&R Contest

Summertime Dropouts were entered into a contest run by the local Minneapolis AP street team. The prize? The winning band will be featured in an upcoming issue.

It came down to the wire, but the fans really came through in the end to help Summertime Dropouts beat the second place contender by about 25%. It truly came down to the last 18-24 hours of the contest, though, at which point Summertime Dropouts started pulling away and never looked back.

We would like to congratulate the band, thank the fans for their support and send a special thanks to Bryan Stars of Bryan Stars Interviews and Luke Korns for their role in turning out the vote.

Voluminous Records Signs Melodic Hard Rock Band Fades Away

Fades Away's Former Lineup
Voluminous Records announces the signing of Christian Hard Rock band Fades Away to a label & distribution deal for their upcoming album slated for the Fall of 2013. The first single, "Creature," will be released in late April of this year.

Fades Away is a high energy, original hard rock band out of Minneapolis, MN. The four members include David Erickson (vocals), Matt Mahlen (drums/percussion), Brett Verlennich (guitar) and Steve Daniels (bass). Each member’s different musical and personal background provides the building blocks for Fades Away’s unique style. Integrating genres ranging from jazz and classical, to hard rock and blues, Fades Away meld these multiple and diverse styles to create a raw yet melodic sound.

The previous release from Fades Away entitled Perceptions spent eight weeks featured in various prime locations on iTunes' genre pages (namely the Metal and Christian & Gospel pages) and sold thousands of units. Following the success of the album, the forthcoming full-length album is highly anticipated by fans and industry insiders alike. Voluminous Records President David C. Coleman states, "We're excited about the addition of Fades Away to our roster and believe this new album will be their best effort yet. Fans of aggressive, melodic rock are really in for a treat. We have full faith in this band and what they can potentially accomplish. And, trust me, you do not want to miss these guys live!"

This group of diverse musicians continues to grow and morph into a whole greater than the sum of its parts. Perceptions was an important progression in the band's evolution and now, with a revised lineup, the band is set to push the envelope even further. Fades Away will continue to deliver solid, A-Level musicianship and songwriting, as well as the connection and approachability fans of the band have come to know and love.

In anticipation of the new album, we're offering a free download of the single "I Still Miss You" from Perceptions. Download the track on NoiseTrade now!

Pure Volume Set To Premiere "Getaway" by Summertime Dropouts

The song "Getaway" from Summertime Dropouts' upcoming debut album Rewind will be debuting on PureVolume.com this coming Wednesday, May 30th. The song will be streamed and featured on the front page of the site.

Let's face it. Most of us have less-than-glamorous jobs. "Getaway" by Summertime Dropouts is a song about freedom. It's a song about captivity. It's a song about being stuck at work - whether it's at a desk or at the factory. You glance out the window and notice it's a PERFECT day outside. There's nothing you'd rather be doing than chillin' in a lawn chair, grilling up some grub and taking the boat out for a cruise on the water. All of a sudden, you realize you're daydreaming about a day at the lake; a vacation by the beach; a better life away from your humdrum work life!

The character in "Getaway" realizes he's daydreaming about anything but work and is stuck without an exit plan. Beyond the first verse, the song lyrics are left to interpretation by the listener, but the two most likely scenarios conclude with our loveable beach bum quitting his job to spend his days wasting away by the water or celebrating his day at the beach, wishing it could last forever.

When life's a "Beach" there's nothing a little Summertime Dropouts can't fix. Just sing the "Getaway" lullaby.
